It’s been a couple of weeks that I’ve been indie and its been a massive learning curve. I’ve been inducted into the hell that is Adultwork, and wasted tedious hours trying to upload photos using their lottery-based photo uploader (you have a one in 14,000 000 chance of it uploading successfully).
Whilst the downside of being an independent escort (I hate that word – Im a prostitute – everyone else needs to get over it) is the endless admin and marketing necessary to make your voice heard in an already crowded market, the nicest thing is undoubtedly the clients, and being able to connect with them in a much more human way.
When I worked for an agency it was almost impossible to make small talk with my clients – I was so afraid to give out any personal information in case it was passed on to the other women or management and somehow used against me.
In the end I got really frustrated with it – sex isn’t just about putting things in holes (although that tends to feature); its about intimacy, fun and making a connection. This is even more important with BDSM.
Of course, there always has to be a line of separation between work and personal life, but now when I meet you you can be sure that I’m turning up as myself. I think that leads to a much more passionate and honest encounter, and I think my clients appreciate that too…read my reviews for the evidence.
The fabulous latex retailer Libidex had their quarterly sample sale this week. I was there queueing before the doors opened and am only slightly ashamed to say that I bought a load of stuff, went off for lunch and then revisited later in the afternoon and bagged some more loot.
Here’s me trying on my pink leotard, lots more pics to come when I have my next pro shoot in a couple of weeks.
The final big event of my week was a bit of a shocker. It’s what every sex worker dreads – news of your ew occupation reaching people who you’d really rather didn’t know.
I have to admit I’m fairly ambivalent – I’m not embarrassed or ashamed about what I do, and everyone who needs to know, knows. And whats more, they’re all pretty cool and supportive.
But it was still a shock when an old school friend got in touch to inform me quite coldly that shed become aware of my work. How had it come to her attention? Only bloody Twitter…turns out my working profile (which didn’t have a face pic, but was still quite recognisable as me) kept on coming up as a suggestion for “people you may know”. God knows why, I don’t even follow her on Twitter, but I assume I’d not been scrupulous about blocking access to my phone book/contacts list.
Lesson learned.
Fundamentally I’m with Edward Snowden, if you’re life’s out there online its up for grabs, and pretty much out of your hands. So here I am, do with me what you will.
Have a good week my lovelies. Don’t forget to follow me on Twitter for political commentary, pithy one-liners and the occasional picture of my bum.
